Who we are
Secret Reads is run by Storyling LLC, which is responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at hello@secretreads.com.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you join the book club.
- The genres you choose, if you tell us.
- The IP address you signed up from, and when you signed up (and confirmed, if we asked you to), as a record of your consent.
- Which free books you claim from our emails, and when. Links in our emails carry a random member code (never your email address), so when you click to get a book we can note it in your membership record, along with the date and how many books you’ve claimed. This tells us which books and genres our members want, so we can send you more of what you like.
- If you’re an author joining our waiting list: your name or pen name, your email address, the link to your Amazon author page if you give it, and when you joined.
- Anything you write to us, if you email us.
We don’t use cookies or third-party analytics on this site. To understand how the site is used, we count visits ourselves: the page you viewed, the site or campaign link that sent you here, your country, and your device type and browser. On a free book page, we also count views and clicks on the button, and which page design you were shown. We don’t store your IP address. To count unique visitors, we combine your IP address and browser with a random code that changes every day and is then deleted, so the result can’t be traced back to you or linked across days. We keep these visit statistics for about 13 months.
Why we collect it
We use your details only to email you about new books in the genres you chose, including free and discounted offers (for example, so we don’t remind you about a book you already have), and to answer you when you write to us. If you’re on the author waiting list, we use your details to review your books and contact you about joining. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who processes it for us
- Brevo stores our mailing list and sends our newsletter and confirmation emails.
- Cloudflare hosts this website, handles sign-up requests, and stores our visit statistics and the free book pages.
- Zoho Mail hosts our email inbox.
These providers may process data outside the EU/EEA, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards required by law, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
We never sell your data or share it with anyone else for their own marketing.
How long we keep it
We keep your details while you’re a member. If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you right away. We keep only a minimal record (your email address and when you unsubscribed) so we can respect your choice, and delete the rest within 12 months. You can ask us to delete everything at any time.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, get a copy of it, or object to how we use it, by emailing hello@secretreads.com. You can unsubscribe with one click from any email we send. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
